Tenant Highlight – Boxes to Boots

READCO Welcomes Boxes to Boots to the Ferndale Center

The average day for Boxes to Boots president, Kristen Gauvin, isn’t all that average. Kristen is the very proud organizer of this all-volunteer effort to support U.S. troops stationed worldwide with care packages, treats, and essentials. Her days are jam packed with fund raising, logistics, and organizing.
Since 2015, this organization based in Kensington, CT has sent hundreds of thousands of care packages and has grown from a 200 to nearly 1000-person volunteer army. This year’s goal for total care packages – which cost an average of $23 each – is to send just over 1,500 packages. Kristen is hoping to fulfill this goal at this year’s annual packaging event, “Operation Cares”, hosted at the McGee School in Berlin, CT on November 5th. This event has become a wonderful opportunity for community groups, like firefighters, police, youth sports teams, Scouts, and others to volunteer.
Kristen will also be working with NBC 30 and Kevin Nathan this holiday season to raise awareness and send even more boxes overseas. If you know of a soldier or unit that could benefit from these care packages, you can nominate them on the Boxes to Boots website. READCO is proud to sponsor and partner with Boxes to Boots this year in their supply drive and fundraising efforts.
Boxes to Boots accepts donations of money, or items, and is always looking for volunteers. They accept Venmo, Paypal, credit or debit cards for cash donations or to donate items, please to go their Amazon Wish List or Walmart Registry. For full details, please visit www.boxestoboots.org.
